A Message From Dr. Brittany

Hello My Hilltop Family!

I want you to know that I am using the free time that I have to stay as up to date as I can with this virus: Fact checking as many articles, social media posts, press releases, announcements, etc as I can for you based on my own medical training and experience along with using multiple reliable resources. I am also using my down time to continue to research and learn the best ways to help you stay healthy by not only preventing things like this virus but also to help you build a strong immune system (just as I did for you pre-COVID). This is what I was put on this planet to do, to help you.

That being said, I will be sharing some immune system basics as well as how to build strong immune systems so you can learn as much as you can because the thing is, the more we know about something, the less fear and uncertainty there is about it.

Don't be afraid of sharing this information with others. I have seen soooo many people change their lives for the better with this knowledge and I think, especially with the state of the world right now, everyone deserves, no NEEDS, to know this. But I am only one person. So I need your help getting this information out to as many people as possible.

If we don't want this panic or the lock downs to continue, we need as many people as possible doing as many proactive things as we can to change the narrative. Just forget about the mask wearing and isolation stuff for just a moment and think about what brought us here in the first place. This virus seems to be taking advantage of those with weakened immune systems (those who already have health issues and those who take any type of medications... or those who don't follow the 5 Essentials completely). Well it's no wonder our country is getting hit hard with this, we have more people with chronic illness and more people taking medication than any other country. 1 in 2 people in this country are expected to develop heart disease in their lifetime. 1 in 2, making heart disease the number one killer of Americans. For people to develop cancer, the risk is 1 in 3. 1 in 3 people. That's extremely common. And those illness plus many more are caused by a lack of a healthy lifestyle, by not doing your 5 Essentials to the best of your ability. Think about it for a second. The majority of Americans don't exercise, they eat more processed food than they do real food, they don't get adjusted regularly, and they have way too many toxins in their life plus have stinking thinking; they are not giving their body what it needs to stay healthy. So we are a very sick country to begin with then you add in an opportunistic virus that the human population has never been exposed to before AND add in the fear aspect... of course more people are going to get sick! But this doesn't have to be the case as you will learn here over the next few weeks.

So let's start with some immune system basics:

What is the immune system?

  • Complex network of cells, tissues, and organs, and the substances they make to protect and defend the body from potentially harmful substances (toxins, bacteria, viruses, allergens, fungi, protozoans, etc).

  • Includes white blood cells and organs and tissues of the lymph system (thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, lymph vessels,and bone marrow).

What is the immune response?

  • The automatic (Innate driven), natural reactions the body has when a potentially harmful substance is present.

  • In a nut shell, it is this: Body recognizes the foreign substance by sensing the specific antigens (chemical signals- like the flag in the up position on a mailbox) on the substance. This triggers specific white blood cells to make antibodies (specialized proteins that stay in the persons body as a "memory" of the substance so that if that substance enters the body again in the future, the immune response is better ready for it). The antibodies bind to the antigens of the foreign substance to signal destruction and elimination by other processes and systems in the body.

Types of immunity

  • Innate or natural immunity- general protection provided by the microbiome (normal microbes- bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa) that are present on the skin and within the digestive and respiratory tracts. We get this protection by living our normal day to day lives when we touch things, breath, and ingest things.

  • Adaptive immunity- protection that develops throughout our lives (not just during childhood) by being exposed to diseases or when we are vaccinated against them.

  • Passive immunity- protection that is "borrowed" from another source and lasts only for a short time. We get this protection when we are babies from mom: antibodies are passed through the breast milk during breastfeeding and through the placenta during pregnancy.
